Artist Statement
My artworks are motivated by personal history, creating narratives that are both, at once, intimate and universal. My pieces pay tribute to the handwork that was a significant factor in my upbringing and development as an artist. The collages with many textures and colors reference familial craft traditions such as machine and hand embroidery, applique, and patchwork. My artworks are visually playful and dynamically created with immediacy, spontaneity, and directness, works that live in the moment. With a rich vocabulary of contemporary images and vintage materials as inspirations, my artwork’s subjects stimulate conversation between the past and present.
